My name is Candy Sugarman and I'm the founder of The Gun Powder Gals in Cumberland County NC. I'm pretty new to the shooting sports - I only started about 4 years ago after going to the NRA's Women's Wilderness Escape. Totally changed my life. Went from anti-gun to a Shooting Group founder!

I'm 42 years old and besides the group I have my own Social Media company.

Candy, those Wilderness Experience trips look so awesome! I have always wanted to go, but have never been able to find the finances to do it. So how did an anti-gun girl happen to go on a trip like that?

The NRA Women's Wilderness Escape is something that every woman should do. My husband convinced me to go - I never got to do any girl scouts or camps when I was a kid, and this was 10 days in New Mexico - which is a place I always wanted to go. My husband is a gunsmith, so I was around guns, just not comfortable with them. I'm also one of those people who feel if it scares me or makes me nervous, I need to do it and get over it.

Perhaps one of the best 10 days of my life, I met so many amazing, well-educated, smart, and fun women. I even started the NRA Women's Wilderness Escape Group page on Facebook, which the NRA let's me run.
